A few days ago, I stumbled across this old, vintage trunk at a thrift store in town called “The Price is Right.” It was sitting in the far back room among all the usual thrift junk with a $20 price tag on it.
I noticed that it was a wooden trunk wrapped in metal and was still in pretty decent shape. It had crazy patina and just had the whole “hipster vibe” to it with the green and black paint.
I just knew it would look great with a short set of mid-century style taper legs stained with some of my homemade wood stain, so I decided to buy it and go all “Flea Market Flip” on it. 😉
On the way home, I stopped by Menards and bought (4) 6″ Waddell Round Taper Legs and (4) Waddell Angle Top Plates.
I’ve seen other vintage trunks and suitcases turned into tables before, and they just had the legs screwed right into the bottom. I decided to beef mine up just a touch by making a couple of simple pallet wood bases to securely attach the legs.
I stained the legs and the pallet wood bases with some Homemade “Iron Acetate” Wood Stain I made a while back. (Check out that link to see my video that shows you how to make it.)
Once it was sitting all nice & sturdy on the legs, I decided to keep the interior simple by just clear coating it with some satin clear spray paint. Easy-peasy.
When it was all said and done, it ended up being a quick, simple flip that looks killer!
