Turn an Old Dresser Into a Kitchen Island

I’ve had an idea in my mind for a while to turn an old dresser into a kitchen island. I wanted to put it on some big casters I had laying in my work room, and I wanted to top it with a simple butcher block style top made from 2x6s. I finally found the perfect candidate at a local thrift store, so I snagged it up and got busy.

Here’s how I made it:

This thing turned out pretty sweet. I raised it up a bit with a caster base made out of 2x4s. One of the drawers was broken, so I pulled the bottom two drawers out, removed the back panel, and covered the open shelves with wood slats I made from cut down wood trim leftover from our house renovation. I also built a butcher block style top out of a few pieces of 2×6 and coated them with mineral oil. The finishing touch was some towel racks mounted on each side made from long cabinet handles.

And while I’m at it, check out the storage ottoman I made out of one of the leftover drawers!
